Surfing in Crete

Crete is the largest island in Greece and although it’s known for its glorious beaches with calm, turquoise sea, it does host a few areas which are surfable. There are a few beaches in which waves from 1.5m to 2.5m form, especially during the winter season. For this reason, Crete is an ideal surfing spot for those chasing the waves, sun and Greek culture.

In general, the west side of Crete is a better location for strong swells. However, the wind and weather play a big roll in generating the perfect wave.

During the winter season, swell can hit the Cretan shorelines. Falassarna beach and Paleochora beach are ideal locations.

During the summer season there are regularly swells in Chania and Falassarna. At both locations, surf boards can be hired on an hourly or half day basis. The team of Surfisland is amazing and you will have a great time enjoying water sports with them.
