Akrotiri

The Akrotiri penisulia is located 10km northeast of the city of Chania. It has become a popular destination to live due to its close proximity to the city, airport and wonderful beaches in the local area. There are several interesting monasteries in the Akrotiri area which are well worth a visit. Agia Triada was built at the beginning of the 17th century and has a small museum. 4km further on, you will arrive at the 16th century Moni Gouverneto. If you continue on the road, you will find the ruins of Moni Katholiko and a small cave (Bear Cave) with massive stalagmites resembling a bear like figure. The villages of Kounoupidiana and Horofakia host a variety of small hotels, tavernas and shops.

There are a range of beaches located around the Akrotiri, something to suit everyone.

Stavros Beach

It has a sheltered bay with a lovely backdrop of a mountain ‘Vardies’ which was featured in the film ‘Zorba the Greek’. Stravos was once a small fishing village, but now hosts a variety of small hotels and tavernas.

Marathi Beach

The sandy beach of Marathi looks over Souda Bay to the area of Apokoronas and the White Mountains. A lovely place to enjoy a day on the beach or have lunch/dinner in one of the fantastic Fish Tavernas.

 Seitan Limania

A unique cove with aqua marine waters and fine pebbles and sand. A picture perfect spot, located a short walk down from the parking area. No amenities located nearby.

Tersanas Beach

A lovely sandy beach with shallow, calm water perfect for families. There is a snack bar, sunbeds and umbrellas.
